James Edward Long, 88, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 in Arlington.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 6, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington; Chaplain Rick Burgin officiating. Interment: Emerald Hills Memorial Park, Kennedale. Visitation: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 5, at Wade Family Funeral Home.
James was born on April 9, 1933 in Grapevine, Texas to E.F. Long and Grace Hogue Long. He was raised in Webb and moved to Arlington in 1959. James was U.S. Army veteran and member of the National Guard. He retired as a Sergeant Major. He graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a BA degree.
James joined the Arlington Police Department in 1954 when he was hired by Chief A.B. “Ott” Cribbs. He served until 1992 when he retired as Lieutenant.
He volunteered for the Police Academy Alumni with the Arlington PD and City of Mansfield PD. He was also a member of the Mansfield Citizen Police Alumni. James always enjoyed a good meal and a good story.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Edith Gabbard Long in 1993.
Survivors: Son, Mike Long and wife, Kathleen; Brother, William Lee Long; Sisters, Margie Wheeler, Lois Jaynes and Leo, Linda Hanson and Mike; Grandchildren, Michelle Murillo and Erica Larson; Great-grandchildren, Caleb, Christian, Daniel, Caitlyn, Rhianna.
