James Earl Gardner was born on October 14th 1928 in Arlington Texas and entered into his heavenly home, meeting his Lord on May 8th 2021 at the age of 92. He passed away at home, surrounded by family, after being on hospice care. He graduated from Arlington High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany during The Korean War, completing his tour with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He went to work for the United States Postal Service for 30 plus years, retiring in a supervisory position.
He met his sweetheart, Othelya Fay Sexton, at a swimming pool, and married on March 11th 1955. At the time of her passing they had been together for 61 years.
James loved to hunt, fish, tinker on his Jeep and helped build a biplane. He acquired his pilot's license and relished flying, seeing the earth from a bird's eye view. He and Fay loved to vacation in New Mexico and Colorado, enjoying scenery, fishing and the dangers of the Jeep trails. After retiring, James enjoyed the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching them play and grow. James, because of his love for the Lord, was a fine example of loving generosity trusting in the providence of God to supply his own needs. James exemplified “it is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35. He was eager to share the Gospel, hoping others would know the joy of salvation.
James is survived by his two daughters, Carolyn and her husband John, Sandra and her husband Tim; six grandchildren, Amanda, Laura, Katie, Whitney, Nathan and Millie; nine great-grandchildren, Haliegh, Anthony, Brianna, Karrisa, Cassidy, Nancy, Gwen, Kora Fay and Levi.
