James “Jim” David Duggan October 29, 1950 – January 12, 2025

James “Jim” David Duggan, 74, of Arlington, Texas, passed away on January 12, 2025. Born on October 29, 1950, Jim grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, and graduated from L.D. Bell High School in 1969.

Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. After his service, Jim built a successful career as an Air Traffic Controller, a role that required precision and dedication.

Jim had a passion for golf—both playing and watching religiously—and was equally enthusiastic about online bridge, poker, and board games he played with family. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan and loved participating in fantasy football. His competitive yet lighthearted nature brought joy to those around him, especially during family games.

Known for his silly sense of humor and colorful personality, Jim always had a way of making people laugh. He often coined nicknames for his children and grandchildren and loved saying, “Whoa, big fella!” to remind people to slow down. Jim’s wisdom and optimism were guiding lights for his family, encouraging them to “let the little things go” and trust that things would work out.

Jim enjoyed traveling to Mexican beaches, Las Vegas, Vicksburg, and Shreveport, where he loved playing craps and poker. A lifelong Elvis Presley fan, Jim appreciated the King’s music as much as he valued creating memorable moments with his family.

Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His children and grandchildren were the center of his world, and he instilled lasting life lessons in them. His family will deeply miss his humor, his optimism, and the joy he brought to their lives.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents David Duggan and Bettye Ratliff, his brother, Charlie Duggan; sister, Eileen Duggan; and sister-in-laws, Faye Wylds and Barbara Laughlin.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Deborah Duggan; daughter, Kelly Shehorn, and her husband, Matthew; son, James David Duggan Jr, and his wife, Marissa; grandsons, Bailey Duggan and Jacob Shehorn; granddaughters, Madison Shehorn and Peyton Duggan; sister, Melissa Spurrier, and her partner, Isaac Rios; and brother, Conner Stevens, and his wife, Celesta.
