It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Cross, a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who left us on September 12, 2024, at the age of 80.
Larry was a dedicated educator and principal for over 30 years, retiring from the Arlington Independent School District in 2002. He touched the lives of countless students and colleagues with his passion for teaching, leadership and his unwavering commitment to education.
Born in Weatherford, TX on August 10, 1944, Larry brought light and love into the world. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Luola Cross; and his daughter, Lori Ann.
He is survived by: his sister, Peggy Gilliland; brother, Tom Cross; loving daughter, Sheri Southerland of Guthrie, OK; devoted son, Gavan Cross of Canton, TX; along with his cherished nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Family was the cornerstone of his life, and he took great pride in watching his family grow and thrive.
An avid traveler, photographer and people watcher, Larry spent many joyful moments exploring Mexico and various destinations across Europe. These travels fueled his love for culture and adventure, and he delighted in sharing stories of his journeys with those he loved. He was also a devoted dog lover, finding joy in the companionship of his furry friends. Christmas was his favorite time of year, where the spirit of the season and the gathering of family brought him immense happiness. His warmth, generosity, and sense of humor created unforgettable memories that will be cherished forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Larry's name to the Dallas Down Syndrome Guild, https://www.downsyndromedallas.org/donate and Weatherford Wags, https://www.weatherfordwags.org/donate which were both close to his heart.
He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through the love he shared and the lives he touched.
Rest in peace, dear Papa.
