James Carter McKelvain III , was born September 3, 1961, in Arlington. James accepted Christ as his savior at an early age and loved the Lord first and foremost. After graduating from Arlington High School in 1980 where he excelled at football and athletics, he attended Baylor University and The University of Texas at Arlington receiving his degree in Finance in 1986 from UTA. Mr. McKelvain then went on to work in Finance with various top tier financial and retirement corporations. He distinguished himself as the number one broker for Prudential Financial Services repeatedly during his time there. James wed Dana Prasek of Arlington and they had two children, Carter and Jordyn, whom he loved dearly. James moved to Fair Oaks in San Antonio and started his own company, McKelvain Retirement Pro in 1986 and specialized in annuities, long term care, health and life insurance, 401k-IRA consolidation, and estate planning and tax issues. He was dedicated to his clients for 36 years and assisted many with financial services small and large. Everyone who knew him throughout his life knew James “ always had your back”. He was always caring and helpful when anyone needed assistance whether a small or big problem.
James loved all sports and regularly played golf anytime he had the chance. He was active in coaching football and baseball with his son Carter and was passionate about coaching athletics. He enjoyed attending Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, Dallas Stars, and Dallas Maverick games and often times invited many friends and family to enjoy the games with him. Through it all James loved family, and many of his friends were family to him. He loved spending time outdoors fishing and hunting with Carter and family on many occasions. James loved to travel and vacation all over the world visiting Europe, Alaska and the Caribbean. He loved the mountains and nature in general. He once had a pet buck deer at his home in San Antonio that was privileged to come indoors when the weather was bad. He had many favorite pets from cats, dogs, goats, sheep, horses and even a deer. James contributed to many charitable organizations and gave of his time and money to support causes in his community.
James always lived life to the fullest, there was no half way, only full throttle. He will be most remembered for his sense of humor, adventure, generosity and direct manner.
SURVIVORS: father and mother, James Carter McKelvain Jr. and Joyce Arnott McKelvain of Arlington; sister, Shelley and Dave Smith; niece and husband Hallie and Garrett Valosek of Hawaii; nephew and wife Brandon and Megan Krause of Plano; sister, Shannon Carr; niece Mickayla Carr of Oklahoma City, OK; son, Carter McKelvain and wife, Meagan Benson McKelvain of Lubbock; two twin grandsons Carter and Crew McKelvain; daughter Jordyn McKelvain of San Antonio, (UTSA); and longtime family member Tom Cho, of Virginia.
