Ivan Phillips

January 9, 1923 — June 19, 2018

ARLINGTON – Ivan Phillips, 95, passed away Tuesday, June 19th, 2018. Funeral: Monday, June 25th at 11:00 am at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1200 W. Green Oaks Blvd, Arlington, Texas. Memorials: Memorial gifts may be made in honor of her life to Mission Arlington, 210 W. South Street, Arlington, Texas 817-277-6620. Ivan was born January 9th, 1923 in Plains, Texas. Her Uncle Bill Hague was the county clerk and signed her birth certificate. She spent her childhood in West Texas and would have been hard pressed to name a town between Plains and Lubbock that she had not lived in. Ivan graduated from Lubbock High School and completed two years at Lamar College. She was tireless in her dedication to ensuring quality of life for her two children. When she married her second husband James Phillips in 1960, they traveled often with his work as a structural engineer. From the Air Force Academy in Colorado, to the Peace Gardens of North Dakota, to the mines of Brazil, to the Louisiana coastline to Dallas (where he helped build the DFW Airport) she moved with her family. Later she traveled to Japan and all over Eastern and Western Europe. For a little girl from Plains, Texas, she was well traveled. Ivan's laughter was joyful and contagious. Her eyes, aquamarine in color, twinkled when she was happy and were firm as steel when needed. She dressed beautifully, always had a fun nail polish, valued her friendships deeply, played a good game of Bridge, a competitive ukulele and could out arm wrestle any of her grandkids. Ivan had a beautiful spirit demonstrated by her love, the sparkle in her eyes when she laughed and the way her hands moved expressively in the air when she spoke. Ivan's life was long and rich, filled with its share of heartache and triumphs. She loved greatly and was much loved in return. Survivors: Ivan is survived by her daughter, Kaaren Rougeux and her husband, Richard; son, Chris Carroll; grandchildren, Kimby Caplan, James Carroll and Katie Carroll Webb. She also has three great grandchildren, Harry Jeter-Caplan, Miles Lawrence Webb and Zoë Rebecca Webb with whom she had the pleasure of spending many joyful times.
