Iva Lee Hancock

Iva Lee Hancock, 88, passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in Irving. Funeral: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Graveside Service: 3:30 p.m., Coolidge Cemetery, Coolidge. Visitation: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, prior to the service at the funeral home. Iva Lee was born on November 15, 1927, in Coolidge, a small town about 85 miles south of downtown Dallas. She was raised on a farm, the second of four daughters born to Edgar and Ernestine (Miles) Barfield. While growing up in Coolidge, she met her future husband, V.T. Hancock, Jr. They celebrated 66 years of marriage prior to V.T.'s death in 2013. Iva Lee and V.T. lived in Lubbock until 1965, when V.T.'s job brought them to Irving. It was here that they lived for the remainder of their lives. Iva Lee and V.T. both loved gardening and the outdoors. She loved to harvest the vegetables from their garden and share with family, neighbors and friends. Iva Lee had a quiet, gentle spirit and the focus of her life was always her family. She loved to spoil her grandchildren. Special thanks to the caregivers at VIP Living Center and Debbie Denman of Vitas Nursing. Iva Lee was preceded in death by her beloved husband, V.T.; sisters, LaVaughn Kilgo, Dorthy Barfield and Christine Shellenberger; and grandson, John Anderson. Survivors: Iva Lee is survived by her daughter, Susan Elmore, and her husband, Jess of Perrin; her son, Tommy Hancock of Irving; grandchildren, Stephen Hancock and his wife, Jalah, Michael Hancock, Cassie Hancock, Ashley Hale and husband Mark, Will Elmore and wife, Adrienne; and eight great-grandchildren.
