Harley Dee Wright, 99, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2019 in Dallas.
Graveside Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 14, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Tx 75211.
Harley was born on April 25, 1920 in Floydada, Texas to Noah Wright and Bunnie Hopper Wright.
He was born April 25, 1920 in Floydada, Texas to Noah and Bunnie Wright. He graduated from Floydada High School in 1938 and attended college at West Texas State in Canyon, Texas. His college education was interrupted by World War II as he enlisted in December, 1941. He served in the Army Air Corp until December, 1945 as an instructor and aircraft inspector. Harley achieved the rank of staff sergeant.
After the war Harley continued his education and received both a Bachelor's and Master's degree from West Texas State. He then enjoyed being a high school teacher in Lockney; an instructor in the Aircraft Mechanics School at the AFB in Amarillo; a teacher in night school at Amarillo Junior College; writing training manuals for on-the-job trainees; writing textbooks for Air University's education program; Working in the Aerospace program editing manuals from 1959 to 1968; 1968 started a chain of dry cleaners businesses. In 1982 he sold the dry cleaners and purchased a small art gallery, which he ran until 2001. He met Verna, the love of his life, in Denver. They were married for 41 happy years.
Harley was a very active individual at the Arlington YMCA and enjoyed many functions and trips with both the YMCA and the senior's group at the Watercrest of Mansfield. Being a member of the church congregation that meets at the Watercrest has been very meaningful to Harley.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Iva Mae Lyles (Marvin) and his wife of 41 years, Verna Wright.
He is survived by his son, Larry Wright and his daughter, Judy McKee (Richard), nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
