Hannelore Barbara Mccrary

March 22, 1946 — December 24, 2020

Hannelore Barbara McCrary, age 73, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Medical City Arlington. She was born in 1946 in Contwig, Germany to Gregor and Maria Maurer. She was one of four children. Sadly, her brother, Dieter, and sister, Gabi, preceded her in death at young ages due to accidents. Her childhood years were difficult in post WWII Germany, and Hannelore and her family sometimes went hungry. After finishing secondary school, she pursued a career as a hairdresser and them moved to Pirmasens, Germany. While working on the U.S. Army base, she met the love of her life, an Army officer, Wiley Wayne McCrary. They married in 1969 in a military wedding, came to Dallas, Texas to meet family and friends, then Hannelore returned to her family in Germany while her husband had to complete a second tour in Vietnam. Finally reunited, they came to the States and settled at West Point, New York and eventually moved to Arlington, Texas. She began studying the process to become an American citizen, an accomplishment that she was so very proud of. Hannelore also began working as a reservationist for American Airlines, and being multilingual she helped people from many different countries travel the world for the next 30 years. Hannelore truly lived live to the fullest and loved entertaining family and friends. She loved cooking, decorating, party planning, dancing, photography, pets, and travel. Her favorite destinations were the beaches of Cabo San Lucas, Disney World Orlando, and staying with family in Germany. This includes her surviving sister, Elisabeth Hornung, niece, Manuela Huber, nephew, Markus Hornung, great-nephew, Dennis Huber and great-niece, Lisa Keller. “Gotchen”, meaning “little aunt”, in German is what they called her. Back in the United States, Hannelore is survived by sister-in-law, Barbara Jackson, brother-in-law, John Jackson, brother-in-law, Ira Donald McCrary, nieces, Stephanie Robertson, Dana Leachman, and Susan Sullivan, and seven great-nieces and nephews, who all miss her dearly and will always remember the good times. A graveside service will be held at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211 on January 7, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. Visitation: She will lie in state from 12-5 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to one of Hannelore's favorite charities: The Humane Society, Wounded Warrior Project, and the USO. The family would also like to thank close friends and neighbors of Hannelore's for helping and caring for her over these last 5 years after Wiley passed. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.
