Hancel Brannon, 89, passed away on June 4, 2023, in Arlington, Texas.
Hancel was born in Corsicana, Texas on June 8, 1933 to Beacher and Violet Brannon. Growing up, he spent most of his time in and graduated from High School in Mexia, Texas.
While Hancel could be described as being domineering and strong willed, he was always there for his family, friends and neighbors, no matter what was needed. He was loyal and knew how to build relationships. Hancel never met a stranger and always found a way to help out and take care of others.
Hancel retired from General Motors after 38 years of employment. In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to “real” Country music such as Hank Williams, Sr. as well as watching Westerns featuring John Wayne and Audie Murphy.
As a founding member of the Lone Star Region Vintage Chevrolet Club, Hancel enjoyed rebuilding old Chevys. He also loved his church and spent time serving at Grace Baptist Church.
Hancel is survived by his son, Audie M. Brannon and wife Sue, daughter D’Ann Etheridge and husband Craig, and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Brannon. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Marshel Etheridge (Samantha), Sara Dee Etheridge, Robert Van Zandt, Stuart Brannon (Sarah), Katherine Dine (Marc), and Laura Guinn (Bobby), as well as 7 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Denita Brannon; and son, Benny Brannon
A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 am, Friday, June 9, 2023 at Grace Baptist Church; 3001 W. Green Oaks Blvd. Arlington, Texas 76016.
There will be a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Grace Baptist Church, 3001 W. Green Oaks Blvd. Arlington, Texas 76016. A burial will follow on June 9, 2023 at 1:00pm at Oakwood Cemetery, 700 N. 15th St. Corsicana, 75110.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Hancel’s name to Grace Baptist Church of Arlington.
