Ha Wai Wong

November 2, 1919 — February 28, 2012

ARLINGTON -- Ha Wai Wong, 92, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and joined her husband of 72 years, Sum Lee Wong. Funeral: 9 to 10:15 a.m. Monday, March 12, in Wade Family Funeral Home Chapel, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Interment: 11 a.m. Monday, March 12, in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, alongside her husband in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: The family will receive friends noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Wade Family Funeral Home. Ha Wai Man was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Bao An, Canton, China. She married her husband in Hong Kong, China, and quickly began planning for their future together. While her husband served in the U.S. armed forces during World War II, Ha Wai prayed for his safe return and made a vow to give up her favorite food -- beef --for his safe return. She kept her vow to abstain from eating beef until her death. Finally after the war, they immigrated to the U.S. with their two children in July 1946 under special provisions afforded to U.S. servicemen after World War II. She chose the life of housewife and mother during her early years in the U.S. and later joined her husband in owning and operating restaurants beginning in the 1960s throughout New York (Brooklyn, Queens, Smithtown) and later in Arlington, where she was a longtime resident. Well known for her fun-loving spirit, Ha Wai enjoyed playing mah-jong, going out to eat and spending time with her friends and family. A regarded and accomplished matriarch, Ha Wai Wong will be remembered for the legacies she leaves behind in her family. Survivors: Sons, Wai K. Wong of Pennsylvania and Ming K. Wong and Wing K. Wong, both of Arlington; daughters, Anna Leung of Connecticut, Kim Wong of New York, Linda Lok of Arlington and Elaine Green of Floral Park, N.Y.; 28 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. Wade Family Funeral Home Arlington, 817-274-9233
