January 8, 1930 — April 27, 2023

Gordon Emmett Mackenzie (better known as Mac) – January 8, 1930 – April 27, 2023

Gordon was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Fred and Adelaide MacKenzie and was the youngest of five children.  He was raised in Wilmette, Illinois and upon graduating from New Trier High School he made his way to Florida. He worked on a fishing boat for several years before joining the U.S. Army. He proudly served our country for 30 years (including two years in Vietnam, one year in Korea and five years in the National Guard).  He retired honorably as Master Sergeant having received several Commendation Medals.  During his early years in the military he met and married his wife, Ann, of over 50 years and they had one daughter, Virginia.  His passion was building model boats and doll houses but he is best known for his elaborate Christmas village displays every year.  Gordon loved dogs, especially German Shepherds.  During his retirement years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann.  He is survived by his daughter, Virginia Stinchfield; Son-in-law, Gary Stinchfield; Grandsons, Sean Stinchfield and Sawyer Stinchfield; and Granddaughter, Savannah Stinchfield.  He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.

Donations in Gordon’s memory can be made to  St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or K9s for Warriors.
