Gera Jane McQuay, 67, passed away on September 20, 2022, in Fort Worth, TX.
Gera McQuay was born on March 9, 1955 in Fort Worth, TX, to Jimmy and Dorothy Galey.
Gera graduated from Arlington High School in 1973 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Texas Wesleyan University in 1977, where she became a sister of Gamma Phi Beta. She then went on to earn a Master’s degree from Texas Christian University in 1981. She started her career as an Elementary School Teacher and continued to guide young minds as a second grade teacher at Hill Elementary for 39 years.
Gera married her husband Gregory McQuay in Arlington, Texas in 1978. The couple had one daughter, Megan Jane Weir in August of 1984.
Gera loved to travel. One of her favorite destinations was the Rocky Mountains. She enjoyed reading and listening to Christian music. She was also a dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist church in Arlington. She would often be found at church, facetiming with her granddaughters, or playing with her dogs, Oscar and Jojo.
Gera had an amazing presence and was always happy. She was known to say that, “I choose joy” in all of life’s circumstances. She loved children, especially her granddaughters. Gera will best be remembered for her abundant heart and her unending willingness to give. She never placed herself before others.
Gera is survived by her husband, Gregory McQuay; Daughter Megan Weir (Wes Weir); Grandchildren Harper (8), Adaline Jane (4), and Evelyn (2); She is also survived by numerous cousins in Texas and Tennessee.
Gera is preceded in death by parents, Jimmy and Dorothy Galey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Gera’s name to any breast cancer awareness foundation.
For Gera’s memorial service, casual attire may be worn.
