George W. Slaughter

George W. Slaughter, of Arlington, TX went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 1, 2020. He lived his 85 years with gentleness, kindness and faith. A visitation will be held Friday, May 8, 2020 at Fielder Road Baptist Church in Arlington at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will take place at Moore Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to one of the following organizations he gave so much of his time and resources to: Mission Arlington @ www.missionarlington.org or to Metroplex Women's Clinic @ www.metroplexwomensclinic.com . He grew up in Beaumont, Handley and Fort Worth and graduated from Beaumont High School in 1952. George then graduated from Texas Tech University in 1956 with a degree in petroleum engineering. His high school sweetheart, Barbara Jean Davidson, became his wife in 1957. The young couple moved to Petersburg, VA where George served in the United States Army training soldiers in petroleum distribution. He attained the rank of Sergeant in the Quartermaster Corps. When they returned to Texas, they lived in numerous small towns before landing in Midland and then eventually Arlington, where they have lived for the past 40 years. George was a wonderful husband to Barbara for 62 happy years. Together they raised two children, David and Julia. They attended Fielder Road Baptist Church where George served as a deacon since 1980. His career in the oil industry included long stints with Texaco and Southland Royalty. George also owned and operated Hurricane Office Supply but then returned to the work he loved by taking a job with Hunt Oil, eventually serving as General Manager of their Yemen operation. He and Barbara resided in Yemen for six years then returned to their home in Arlington. George was an instrument rated pilot and builder of model airplanes, an avid hunter, runner, snow skier and most of all, a world class Papa to Kristin and Kevin, his pride and joy. Throughout his entire adult life, George taught Sunday School to all ages. He was well known to be kind, wise and generous and he lived a life worthy of his calling as a follower of Jesus Christ. Husband, Father, Papa, Friend…George left nothing here undone. There is no doubt he was welcomed into the arms of his Savior with these words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” George was preceded in death, by his parents Earl and Eletha Slaughter, his sister, Betty Alice Slaughter and his beloved son, David Wilson Slaughter. He is survived by his wife Barbara Jean Slaughter, his daughter Julia Kay Kronenberger and her husband Lawrence Drew Kronenberger, grandchildren Kristin Renee Kronenberger and Kevin David Kronenberger, sisters Earline Brown and Laurel Rockwell, and many treasured nieces and nephews.
