George P. Shelton III, 70, of Arlington peacefully passed at home on November 2, 2022. He is survived by his beloved wife Breda, daughter Candace (née Shelton) Sandifer, her husband Collin Sandifer, and son John Shelton, as well as by his grandchildren Carson, Logan, and Audrey Sandifer. George is also survived by his brothers Robert Shelton and Christopher Shelton, his sisters Julie Shelton and Amy Lehman, and his brothers David Shelton and Daniel Shelton. He is survived by his many cherished nieces and nephews, whom he cared for dearly. George was the third child and eldest son of George and Janet Shelton, deceased, and was predeceased by his sisters Mary and Melinda Shelton and his brother John Shelton.
George received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame du Lac in 1974 and received his MBA from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1995. George began his professional life at Bailey, Banks, & Biddle of Philadelphia, a member of the Fine Jeweler’s Guild. He was a licensed CPA in Texas and was the Vice President of Finance at multiple companies in California and Texas. He was also involved in entrepreneurial enterprises through Irish Angels and other organizations well into his retirement.
George met the love of his life Breda in February 1981. He prepared her taxes and proposed one month later on St. Patrick’s Day in Washington, DC. One year later their daughter Candace was born in Silver Spring, MD. The family moved to southern California soon after where son John was born in 1986 in Anaheim. George moved his family to Arlington, TX in 1990 where he and Breda remained and have been residents for over 30 years.
During his retirement, George used his financial skills to serve various non-profits including Catholic Charities Fort Worth, the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (Washington, DC), Bethlehem University Foundation, & the Gingrich Foundation. George was a lifelong Catholic, an active parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, & Legatus of Fort Worth. George loved international travel, history, reading, politics, time on the golf course with his friends, and was truly a family man, dedicated always to those he loved near and far. George was a staunch supporter of Catholic Education, from local elementary schools to Seminaries located throughout the United States. His charitable heart and caring demeanor will be remembered for years to come.
Memorial Information:
Visitation for Family and Friends will be November 9, 2022 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, and Rosary led at 6:15pm at Wade Funeral Home, 4140 West Pioneer Parkway, Arlington TX 76013.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated November 10, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on 5819 W. Pleasant Ridge Road, Arlington TX 76016, with a luncheon immediately following Mass at the Parish Activity Center. All are welcome.
George’s remains will be interred in a private family service at a future date.
