George Lee Parr

ARLINGTON -- George Lee Parr, 80, passed away Monday, April 2, 2012, in Arlington. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Thursday in Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the George Parr Memorial Fund, Bank of America. George was born Aug. 25, 1931, in Dallas to George Lee Parr Sr. and Virgil Barrett Parr. He had resided in Arlington since 1942. He was raised in Arlington where his parents owned Parr Texaco Station for many years. George was a graduate of Arlington High School, class of 1948, where he played football for the Colts. He later played football for North Texas Agriculture College and was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. George worked with New York Life as an agent for years and in his retired years was a highly regarded greeter for Sam's Club on Anderson Blvd. for over 12 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church. George was a longtime member of Old Arlington's "Monday Lunch Bunch." He was also an avid sports fan, loved to entertain, enjoyed cooking and was an avid dog lover. George's favorite time was spent with his family and friends. Survivors: Wife of 49 years, Betty Evans Parr; sons, Jeffrey Parr of Dallas, Jack Parr and wife, Lisa, and their children, Nathan, Reid and Sheridan of Frisco, and Jonathan Parr and wife, Kamela, and their children, Hunt and Hayden of Amelia Island, Fla.; as well as his beloved dog and companion, "Mister," his 19-year-old Jack Russell Terrier.
