Mr. George "Butch" Carlton Mahan

August 11, 1941 — January 31, 2024

George “Butch” Carlton Mahan, a beloved husband, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2024, at the age of 82. He was born on August 11, 1941, in Ogden, Utah, and soon became a well-known resident of Arlington, Texas, where he graduated from Arlington High School in 1959 and lived until his death.

A fun loving and hardworking individual, Butch dedicated his career to General Motors, where he excelled and retired as a Team Leader after 30 years of loyal service. His commitment to excellence and leadership made a lasting impact on his colleagues and the company.
Butch also served as a proud member of the National Guard for six years, specializing in helicopter services. His devotion to duty and selfless service exemplified his love for his country.

On December 31, 1965, Butch married the love of his life, Charlene Wise, also of Arlington. They recently celebrated 59 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, several beloved cats, and countless cherished memories.

In his youth, he had a passion for playing baseball, fostering a love for the game that lasted a lifetime. He celebrated the 2023 World Series Texas Rangers. Butch mastered many hobbies. He owned and cared for cars, built complex installations of model trains and piloted radio-controlled airplanes. He played the electric guitar in the legendary band “Avon and the Ravons” showcasing his musical talent and proudly displaying his collection of guitars.

Retirement brought a new chapter of adventures for Butch and Charlene. They embarked on numerous trips and cruises creating lasting memories with dear friends. They enjoyed commemorating AHS Reunions and exploring the world together. Their joy in life together and with friends is a testament to the enduring bond of their love.

Butch is preceded in death by his parents, William Carlton Mahan and Mary March Mahan, and brother, Pat Mahan.
He is survived by his lively and loving wife, Charlene, his cousins, Ann March Stricklin of Dallas, and Ben Y. March of Kerrville. His host of friends and generations of relatives will miss him dearly.

The memorial service and celebration of Butch’s life will be February 15, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington, TX.
