Born on August 21, 1948 in Carlisle Pennsylvania, he was one of five children of the late Mary Elizabeth and Glenn Proctor Crary.
A love for education led Gary to earn his Bachelor's of Science in Education and his Master's of Business Administration. He was a Spanish teacher at Carlisle Intermediate High School where he was a favorite teacher among his students and well-respected by the staff. His passion for education led him to TX where he held leadership positions with various educational-focused companies such as Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Jostens Learning Corporation and Advanced Academics. He was a dedicated and award-winning executive. Gary had many passions: Faith, family, fellowship, fishing, friends, politics, the gallery, and travel. Charismatic. Loving. Generous. Selfless. Devoted. Gary would do anything to help anyone in need. But, just don't ask him to share his cherry pie!
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Pepper; three children Julie (John) Ballantine, Isaiah and Josh (Erin) Crary; four grandchildren Austin, P-Nut, Tyler, and Noella Crary; four siblings Mary (John) Bower, Connie (Floyd) Horn, Mike Crary, and Esther Younce; and countless friends.
“Only one life,
‘Twill soon be past.
Only what's done
For Christ will last.” (C.T. Studd)
