Gail Smith, 78, of Arlington, TX died peacefully on February 24, 2021, in Arlington, TX.
A loving wife, sister-in-law, and aunt, she is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, Jeff Smith, her brother-in-law Phil Smith of Waterford, CT, her sister-in-law's Barbara Hasson, (James) of Womelsdorf, PA, and Kathleen Aiello, (Peter) of Williamsburg, VA and seven nieces and nephews, and four grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Florence Barton Gail was born and raised in Syracuse, NY. In her early adult years, Gail owned and managed the Big Dipper, a charming neighborhood ice cream shop and café in Doylestown, PA. Unbeknownst to her, this is where she would meet her best friend and future husband. In 1980, they relocated to Arlington, TX where they launched, co-owned and operated Techsas, a successful water treatment business.
Gail was active in her community. A long-time board member for Arlington Urban Ministries (AUM), serving 2 years as Board Chairman. Committed to helping the disadvantaged clients that AUM assists, Gail also served many years on AUM's fundraising committees. Gail's strong love of the Lord and her compassion for people drew her into active ministry at New World United Methodist Church. Here she served as a Stephen Minister and participated in Sunday school classes. Over the years, driven by their love for dogs, adopted several rescues. Gail was especially devoted to their beagle Snoopy Girl.
Gail's second true love was their lake home in Union Springs, NY. Gail could be found most summers swimming, sailing, and enjoying beautiful evening sunsets on the shore of Cayuga Lake.
Celebration of Gail's life will be held on March 24th, at New World United Methodist Church, in Arlington, TX and at a date to be determined in Union Springs, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gail's memory may be made to New World United Methodist Church (nwumc.org) or ArlingtonUrbanMinistries.org.
