Frank Joseph Dorn Jr.

Frank Joseph Dorn Jr. 85, joined his Lord in Heaven September 12, 2024, after battling dementia and Alzheimer for the past decade.

 A service will be held at the DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, in Dallas 7521, Monday, October 7, 2024 at 1:00. 

 Frank was born March 29, 1939, in Sherman, Texas to Frank Dorn and Mary Abel Dorn. He married Sherry Coke Dorn, July 29, 1967. They share one daughter, Leslie, his pride and joy. 

 He graduated in the first graduating class of University of Texas Permian Basin, majoring in Law Enforcement Management. Frank is an Air Force Veteran. Most of his Air Force time was spent in Darmstadt Germany, where in his spare time he participated in road races throughout Europe in his MG Sprite. He was employed as a Dallas Police Officer for 17 years before being recruited by Southwestern Bell Telephone/ATT, where he retired after 21 years as a corporate security manager. 

 Frank was a dedicated family man who was very active in Leslie’s youth sports, as her softball coach and president of Hurst Girls Softball League for more than 20 years. He also served on the Hurst Park Board for several years, and he was Santa during the Hurst Christmas Tree Lighting. In retirement he enjoyed being a softball umpire in Hurst. 

 Frank is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Bettye Sue Dorn Bacile. 

 He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sherry; daughter, Leslie Dorn Barton and son-in-law, Tim; his grandson, Seth Dorn Thigpen, Zach and Chris Barton; sisters, Ginger Elliott, of Sanger and Mary Jane Krebbs, of Holly Lake; several nieces and nephews; and last, but very important, his doodle Duke. 

In lieu of flowers, Frank would be extremely pleased to have donations made to your local animal shelter or rescue. He loved animals and did all he could to protect them.
