Fern Louise Morrison Mahan passed away from this life into the arms of Jesus, her savior, on January 20th, 2021 at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Drayton, and many beloved family members. Her survivors include three daughters, Kathleen Bailey, Deborah Reichelt and Rebecca MacDonald, five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, a brother, Bruce Morrison, and many extended family members, all of whom loved her dearly and will miss her immensely.
She had the voice of an Angel. She sang in cantatas, at weddings, in musicals, in choirs, at funerals, and in the bathtub. She sang her song to the world.
She was an accomplished seamstress. She used to talk about Emory's mother, Willie Mae, mentoring her, showing her how to make custom designs, draperies, curtains, and upholstery.
She loved making beautiful clothes for her daughters and her granddaughters. She made a make-pretend military uniform for Jay, her only grandson. She loved making beautiful things, often, sewing into the late night hours. She sang her song to our world.
She taught little children in school for forty-one years. She achieved a Masters in Education with a specialty in Reading. After she retired, she continued substitute teaching and tutoring little children in reading. She sang her song to the world.
Her grandchildren remember special occasions when they visited in the summer and did sleepovers. The granddaughters remember sewing projects, sleeping in O'ma's silky pajamas, special shopping trips, and singing along with the movie, Annie, over and over, again.
The grandchildren loved her delicious Pot Roast dinners. The daughters remember Swanson Pot Pies out of the pink kitchen and grilled cheese sandwiches after church on Sunday nights.
She was a brave, courageous, and quite determined spirit who fought fiercely for what she believed in. She walked beside Emory every step of the way throughout his illness experience and death. She lived out of her Christian values, and her Faith practice remained constant and strong throughout her life. She sang her song to our world.
A quote by Ralph Waldo Emmerson was tucked away in Ferne's Bible.....To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived....this is to have succeeded.
She touched the lives of so many in her special and determined way. She sang her song to the world.
