Evelyn Uselton, a beloved long-time resident of Arlington, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2024, at the age of 90. Known for her strength, dedication, and unwavering love, Evelyn was the heart of her family, a cherished friend, and a respected member of her community.
Born and raised in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Evelyn was blessed with a large family and countless friends and neighbors who were touched by her kindness and warmth. Her life was a testament to her deep commitment to family and faith. Evelyn was a devoted wife and mother who brought joy and laughter to everyone around her.
At the young age of 17, Evelyn moved to Fort Worth, where she began working at St. Joseph Hospital. It was there that she met the love of her life, Harvey Uselton. Their love story was one for the ages—Evelyn often remarked that Harvey was the most handsome man she had ever seen, with the only possible rival being Elvis Presley, much to Harvey's playful jealousy. They married in May of 1951 and began a journey of love and partnership that would last nearly seven decades.
Their love story continued to flourish as they welcomed their first child, Linda, in February 1952, followed by their son, Danny, in June 1954. After many happy years in Fort Worth, the family moved to Arlington in 1960 when Harvey began working for General Motors. Arlington quickly became their home, and it was there that they raised their family with love and devotion.
Evelyn built a successful career in the printing industry, starting at Taylor Publishing Company in Dallas while her children were young. She held various positions throughout her long career, eventually retiring at the age of 62. In retirement, Evelyn and Harvey enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating countless cherished memories.
Their marriage was a beautiful example of love and commitment. They were devoted to one another and celebrated 69 happy years together, serving as a testament to their enduring love. They were also longtime members of Pleasantview Baptist Church in Arlington, where their faith was a cornerstone of their lives.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harvey, and their grandson, Corey Jackson. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Uselton Jackson; her son, Danny Uselton, both of Arlington; her grandson, Brian Jackson of Magnolia; her granddaughter, Christie Uselton Zbranek (Dustin) of Cypress; her grandson, Jason Uselton (Amy) of Magnolia; and her sister-in-law, Melba Pitts of Mansfield. Evelyn also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, as well as Kate Holland and Stephanie Holland from Arlington, whom she lovingly cared for as their Nanny from birth until the end of her life.
Special thanks are extended to Stephanie Holland for her loving and devoted attention during Evelyn’s hospice stay. She was by Evelyn’s side nearly until her last breath, providing comfort and care. The family would also like to thank Christie Baccus and Shirley Bearden (nieces) for their devotion and support during Evelyn's illness and hospice stay.
Evelyn was a woman of many passions. She loved canning and shopping for fresh vegetables and fruits, tending to her flower beds, and reading. Evelyn was known for her salty-sweet personality—she was loving, caring, and a people person with a strong sense of right and wrong. She was also very opinionated and unafraid to stand her ground. She had a deep love for the Dallas Cowboys and Elvis Presley. Her favorite color was blue, and she was incredibly close to her family, particularly her daughter, Linda, with whom she shared a bond akin to that of best friends.
Evelyn lived a strong Christian life, teaching her family the importance of faith and family from an early age. She was always there for her loved ones, providing guidance, love, and support. Her legacy of love, strength, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family of Evelyn Uselton would like to warmly invite everyone to a reception following the graveside service at Pleasantview Baptist Church. Your presence and support are greatly appreciated during this time of remembrance and fellowship.
