Emily Jeannine Cooley

October 27, 1933 — September 22, 2018

Emily Jeannine Robbins Cooley An example of living graciously with long-term disabilities Jeannine was born in Abilene, Texas on October 27, 1933 to Elgie and Lois Elliot Robbins. After graduating from Abilene High School in 1952, she earned a BA in English from North Texas State College in 1955. That same year she married Ewing Cooley, whom she met while participating in the Baptist student ministry. Jeannine was a sophomore English teacher at Arlington High School before becoming the mother of three daughters. She enjoyed church and community involvement, her sewing club, and bargain shopping. She returned to college in the 1970's to begin teaching special education. She taught in a variety of settings and completed her MA at UTA. Her busy life changed dramatically in 1984 when Jeannine was physically impaired by a brain aneurysm. Although coping with limited mobility, Jeannine still loved to travel and visit with friends, often brewing her signature pot of tea for guests. She also enjoyed collecting and using Early American patterned glass. Jeannine was a member of First Baptist Church in Arlington for 50 years and made wonderful friends there. She was preceded in death by her parents and two younger brothers. She is survived by her husband, C. Ewing Cooley; children, Robbyn and Gary Steele, Kathryn Cooley, and Kristyn and Phillip Brown; grandchildren Taylor and Merrick Steele, Grady Steele, Sara Steele, Kerry and Eddie Looper, Jenna and Garret Carruth, Amy Brown, and Tim Brown; great-grandchildren Caleb and Andrew Steele, Damian Brown-Stowers, Brazos and Jackson Carruth, Aureana Hyden, and Eliza Looper. Jeannine was complimentary of the care she received at Town Hall Estates, and the family acknowledges their appreciation to her caregivers there. In recognition of Jeannine's dedication to teaching students with learning differences, donations in lieu of flowers may be directed to LinkED, www.link-ed.org, 101 Summit Ave. Suite 612, Ft Worth, TX 76102.
