On Monday, December 20, 2021, Ellis Ann Elliott, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away in Dallas at the age of 64. She was born in 1957 in Port Arthur, Texas to Joe and Norma Faye Scaff and was the middle child, with siblings, Jodene Daniels and Kyle Scaff. Ellis got her Bachelor of Education from Stephen F Austin and Master’s Degree from UT Austin.
Soon after graduation, she married Samuel Holmes Elliott, Jr. and they moved to Arlington, Tx. She accepted a Special Education Position and taught for seven years, until she had her first child, Andrew. She remained a “stay at home mom” until her second son, Trevor, was able to go off to elementary school. She was not a woman of leisure, as she cared for several of her friend’s children, while they worked.
Ellis’ passions were teaching, children and nature and she found her dream job: Preschool Nature School Teacher at River Legacy Foundation. For twenty five years, she taught the children of DFW the what’s and why’s of the forests, trails and animals of the park. Before her illness forced her to retire, she was the longest tenured employee of the foundation. “Miss Ellis” was synonymous with Nature School.
Joe and Norma precede her. She is survived by her adoring Mother in Law, Helen Elliott, who made it clear early in her marriage, in the case of divorce, she was on “Team Ellis”. Sam, Andrew and Trevor were able to be in her hospital room when she went to join her Heavenly Father. Jodene and Kyle (with wife Joanie), along with their families, live in Houston. Ellis adored her nieces and nephews: Tracie, Taryn, Thomas and Luke. She loved her cousins: Annette Gray, Della and Duane DeRouen, Paula Runte, Richard Runde, Jimmy, Shawn and Tim Maloney and Molly Bergeron.
A celebration of her life will be at First United Methodist of Arlington on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 10:30. Information on live streaming will be released on Sam’s Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, prayerfully consider a donation to River Legacy Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
