Elizabeth Piotrowski Haney

December 18, 1940 — February 16, 2023

Our dear mom, Elizabeth Haney, sadly passed away on February 16, 2023 at the age of 82. Elizabeth – or Liz, as she was known to friends and family – was a wonderful and loving mom, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also a well-loved resident of the James L. West community in Fort Worth, TX. Her absence will leave a void in the hearts of her family and friends.

Elizabeth was born December 18, 1940 in Rome, NY, the only child of Jan and Lottie Piotrowski. Her family moved to, and lived in, Bethlehem, PA until returning to Rome for her high school years. Elizabeth played sports, was a cheerleader and made lifelong friends during high school. She attended the University of Buffalo, earning her bachelor’s degree, and then worked as a civil servant at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, NY. It is here where she met and married Denis Haney, her beloved husband of 53 years. Elizabeth was a supportive and devoted Air Force wife for over 20 years including packing up and moving every couple of years with five kids in tow. Elizabeth would always say her favorite job was being Mom to her five kids. While her kids were young, she stayed home and managed the family household and hectic schedule. She cared deeply for her family and was a fantastic cook and gardener. She could usually be found in the kitchen preparing something delicious for her family, tending to her flowers or behind the wheel of the family van driving to activities and sporting events. She enjoyed boating and water skiing with her family at Lake Martin in Alabama. Some of her favorite memories came from riding in the boat with a glass of wine and smooth, glass-like waters! After all of her kids left for college and beyond, Denis and Elizabeth moved one last time to Arlington, TX where she began her second career. Over the next 20+ years, Elizabeth worked for Tandy Corp, AST, Motorola and Samsung. She was an active tennis player, took up golf and continued to enjoy planting and growing flowers. During her retirement years, Elizabeth remained active in her church community and enjoyed traveling to places in the US and abroad. She always said her favorite place was Hawaii followed closely by anywhere she and Denis went to play golf. Elizabeth also enjoyed writing stories and shared many of them with her grandchildren.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by both parents and her husband. She is survived by her five children: Elizabeth Haney, Denis (Tracy) Haney, Cindy (Dave) Bryant, Chris (Michele) Haney and Jeff (Donna) Haney; her twelve grandchildren: Kathryn (Tyler) Helms, Meagan (Donald) Fazekas, Aaron Haney, Shannon (Jacob) Tijerina, Emily Haney, Brendan Martel, Alison Bryant, Benton Haney, Emma Martel, Colin Bryant, Merytt Haney and Nolan Martel; also her seven great- grandchildren: Sophia, Josephina, Julia, Hudson, Lucia, Maverick and his brother due in July.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Arlington on February 28, 2023 at 12:00 pm followed by interment at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
