Elizabeth Louise Perrin Bush was 93 years old when she went to her eternal home on Thursday, March 15, 2018. Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 23, at the funeral home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Arlington First Church of the Nazarene, in memory of Bess Bush, 1301 West Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington, TX 76013. Bess was born to Hallene and Gilbert Perrin on September 9, 1924 in Boyd, Kentucky. She was the third of seven children, having 2 sisters and 4 brothers. She graduated from Berry High School in 1942 out of a class of about 20 students. She then began working in the telephone exchange as an operator, which was located in her parent's home. She then took a job in Cincinatti, Ohio as a cafeteria worker at Culp's cafeteria and then later a telephone operator, staying with an aunt there in Covington, Kentucky. Then in 1944, her family was forced to move to Tucson, Arizona for her Dad's health. There, she met a Navy serviceman in the Nazarene church named Jim Bush. Her mother conspired with his to match them together (it worked). Jim had enlisted in the Navy earlier and corresponded to her from overseas. They were married after Jim returned from the Navy in WWII on September 11, 1947. They made their home there in Tucson, and Jim graduated from the University of Arizona in 1948, followed by the birth of their daughter, Diane. Then in 1949, her family moved to Waco, Texas to pursue the homebuilding business. She and Jim then added to their family, a son, Dan. Jim took advantage of another building opportunity in Arlington Texas in 1954, when he began building custom homes there, and then later a career at Chance Vought all the while building houses on the side. Later, Jim's father and brother, and shortly thereafter her father Gilbert, also moved to Arlington. At that time, she and the family became heavily involved at Arlington First Church of the Nazarene, and put down roots to stay. She became an active member, and taught a Kindergarten Sunday school class for many years. Bess was raised among the tobacco fields of Kentucky, and grew to love all kinds of flowers and plants. This served her well over the years, as she regularly volunteered at the church to help with planting and design of the grounds there. She was able to mentor several young boys with her gardening expertise, both at her home and the church. She has been a longtime member of the Nazarene Church, and has welcomed many a stranger into her home for fellowship and food. Many members who joined the church were first welcomed by a wonderful team- Jim and Bess Bush. Bess was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Bush, Jr.; both her parents; her brothers, James Thomas Perrin of Dayton, Ohio, Gilbert Edwin Perrin (age 2), and Glenn Perrin of California; and her sister, Ruth Townsend of Florida. Survivors: Bess is survived by her brother, David Perrin of Kentucky; her sister, Georgia Plog of California; her daughter, Diane Roberts of Missouri; her son, Daniel Bush, of Arlington; grandson, Mark Roberts; three granddaughters, Kathryn Roberts, Carolyn Shearer, Christina Warden; and 2 step-grandchildren, Austin Dennis and Lindsey Dennis Hanks; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
