Eleanor Rose Hood

Eleanor Rose Hood, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024, in Arlington, Texas. Born on April 9, 1927, in Fort Worth, Texas, she was the daughter of Arch L. Ferguson and Alma O. Ivy.

Eleanor lived a life marked by grace, devotion, and a deep sense of community. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Texas Tech University in 1949 and embraced her role as a homemaker with dedication and warmth. Her even-keel personality and unwavering support were evident in every aspect of her life, whether she was raising her three sons, tending to her garden of red roses, or offering her musical talents through piano playing at home, and acapella congregational singing at California Lane Church of Christ.

Her love for helping others was evident in her active involvement with her church and community. Eleanor served on the newcomers welcome committee at Lynridge Assisted Living and Memory Care and was known for her hospitality, often hosting guest ministers from her local church. She also contributed to the Home Demonstration Club during her years in Lubbock.

Eleanor had a passion for sports, especially baseball and basketball. She was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers Baseball Club and made it a point to attend their March training camp in Arizona. In Lubbock, she cheered enthusiastically for the Texas Tech Basketball team.

Eleanor is survived by her three sons, Randall Hood and wife Lajaune, Gary Hood and wife Ginger, and Roger Hood; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Her loving presence will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 27, from 6-8 p.m. at Wade Family Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, at Hawkins Cemetery in Arlington. Pastor Jason Hood, grandson, will be officiating at the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to California Lane Church of Christ or a charity of choice in Eleanor’s memory.
