Ed Miller

Ed Miller, age 83, of Grand Prairie, Texas entered eternal life on July 27, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in St Johns, Arizona on October 15, 1936. He graduated magna cum laude from Bethany Nazarene College in 1958 with a BS degree in natural science. On June 10, 1960 he married Emma Lee Nelson and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Visitation: Friday, August 14 from 6-8 p.m. at Wade Family Funeral Home. Service: Saturday, August 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Wade Family Funeral Home 4140 W. Pioneer Pkwy, Arlington. Burial: Monday, August 17 at 10:00 a.m. at DFW National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to one of Ed's favorite charities: Gideons International, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, or The Salvation Army. In September 1959 Ed joined the Marine Corps where he became a pilot flying the A4 Skyhawk and achieving the rank of Captain. Following his military career, he joined the US Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. There he served as a research physicist in missile guidance. Proving himself to be a brilliant scientist, he was awarded 28 US and 3 foreign patents for his inventions during his career. His significant career contributions led him to be appointed to the NATO D-7 panel in Brussels (1972); test director for joint US/Federal Republic of Germany Laser Expert in Graffenwoehr (1979); 4 Power International Working Group in Paris (1983) and Tri-Services Working Group US Technical Experts in optical guidance (1986). Named Outstanding College Alumni at Bethany Nazarene College (1989), Ed represented his alma mater well through both career accomplishments and service to his local church. He received an outstanding service recognition award at Mastin Lake Church of the Nazarene in 1985 where he held longtime positions on the church board, as minister of music, and as Sunday School superintendent. Most recently he and wife Emma have been faithful members at Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was active in The Gideons, International and spoke to congregations on their behalf. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Miller, his mother, Geraldine Miller Cline, and his grandson Grant Flowers. He is survived by his wife Emma Miller, daughter Carol Miller, son-in-law and daughter Max and Brenda Flowers, son-in-law and daughter Joel and Lisa Williams, son-in-law and daughter Michael and Catherine Benavides, grandchildren Kellsie Beasley and spouse Nathan Beasley; David Williams; Paige Dinger and spouse Caleb Dinger; Abbi Williams; William Benavides and Connor Benavides, and great-grandson Noah Beasley. Ed had a deep, abiding love for family. He was a wonderful husband, Daddy, and Papa. His faithful service to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will remain his greatest legacy.
