Dwight Alan Perry

Dwight Alan Perry, Sr. passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, November 30, 2018 from pancreatic cancer. He was born on December 8, 1954 in Columbia, TN to Jesse and Novella Perry. He was raised by his paternal grandmother, Ruby Miles Perry, for most of his childhood. After high school, Dwight served in the U.S. Air Force from 1972-1975. After his honorable discharge, he worked primarily as a boilermaker before obtaining a Property and Casualty license in 1986. He worked in the personal automobile and property insurance field until his passing. He most recently worked as an automobile damage appraiser for Liberty Mutual/Safeco Insurance. Dwight was a lifelong Tennessee Volunteers fan and would always let any University of Texas fan know who the true “UT” was (which was often, having relocated to Texas in 1984). Aside from the Vols, Dwight was a huge fan of DFW-area professional sports teams, as well as James Martin High School football and DFW Speed. He was quick to crack a joke or throw out a sports statistic, but even faster to lend help to any who needed it , whether it was a request for a mentorship in his field of work, or a ride to a game. He loved classic Western novels, Hallmark movies, Superman, pranks, children, and animals; but Dwight loved his family above all else. Dwight was preceded in death by his grandmother Ruby and father Jesse. He is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Sharon Wright Perry, and his two children, Evelyn (Mike) Perry and Dwight Perry, Jr. He is also survived by siblings, Marilyn (Ward) Phillips, Sandi Waggoner, Steven (Sandy) Perry, Melody (Eddie) Choate, half-siblings Linda (Randy) Wilson, Beth (Mark) Tosh, Susan (Steve) Massey, Brian (Janna) Perry, and Dale Overbey, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
