Doug Sanders

Doug Sanders, a beloved father, husband, brother, and friend, passed away on October 14, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. Born on April 15, 1964, Doug lived a full and vibrant life, always putting others first and spreading joy wherever he went.

Doug's greatest love was his family. He was a constant presence in the lives of his children, never missing a game, debate tournament, or event. Whether it was football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, golf, or hunting, Doug was there, cheering from the sidelines and offering support. He was more than a father-he was a coach, a mentor, and a second dad to many of his children's friends, always giving rides, providing support, and making everyone feel welcome. He was a sweet, selfless man who never met a stranger and treated others with the same care and love he showed his own family.

Doug's passion for trains was something he shared with his son, Nash. Together, they traveled to see special tracks and engines, creating memories that will last a lifetime. His love for geography, trivia, and history meant that Doug knew every river, road, and fun fact-his mind was a treasure trove of knowledge, always ready with a piece of information or a good joke.

Doug had a goofy sense of humor and was known for his dad jokes, dark humor, and the ability to laugh at himself just to bring a smile to someone else's face. He even wrote a blog called Courtesy Flush and regularly called into 1310 The Ticket Radio Station under the moniker "Doug Sanders, Not the Golfer," doing bits that always got a laugh. He made his workplace fun and always found ways to brighten people's days.

A proud graduate of Chaffee High School (Class of 1982), Doug excelled in both academics and athletics. He was a state champion and record holder in the high jump, and he loved reminiscing about his football and basketball days. Doug graduated second in his class, joking that it was only because his English teacher didn't like him. He went on to graduate from the University of Missouri, where he was active in the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, serving as rush chair and later remaining involved with the alumni board. Doug also famously beat Brad Pitt in a "Big Man on Campus" competition, a story he loved to tell.

Doug's career was in Human Resources, focusing on compensation and benefits, but his heart was always in charitable work. He had a special place in his heart for Mission Arlington and was known to stop and give food or clothes to those in need. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and he always found ways to help others, no matter the situation.

A devoted member of Lake Church, Doug was always there to support his community-whether it was attending a funeral or celebrating at a quinceañera, Doug's presence made everything better. He also loved being the announcer at Martin Baseball games, where he brought his signature humor and energy to every event.

Doug had many loves in life: '70s and '80s music, Mexican food, Halloween, and, of course, the Dallas Cowboys. His knowledge of music was unmatched-he could name the artist, album, and release year of any song, down to how old he was when it came out. He loved spending time with his family on road trips for sports and vacations, creating meaningful conversations and unforgettable memories along the way.

Doug was larger than life. He lit up every room, made everyone feel welcome, and left a lasting impact on all who knew him. His family will miss his love, humor, and constant presence as their safety net and emotional support. He was always there to protect and care for those he loved.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Frances and George Sanders. He is survived by the mother of his children, Desiré; his children, Courtney, Payton and fiancé Lizbeth, and Nash; his sisters, Gloria and husband Stan, and Sharon and husband Bill; his brother, Wade and wife Laura; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Doug's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to know him. He was the life of the party, a sweet and kind soul, and a man who truly put others before himself.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 6-8 PM at Wade Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 11 AM at Lake Church. Doug will be forever missed and always remembered.
