ARLINGTON -- Dorothy McDaniel Phipps, 90, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and special aunt, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015.
Funeral: 1 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, 313 N. Center St., Arlington. Interment: Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington. Visitation: Noon to service time Tuesday at the church.
Dorothy was born Dec. 9, 1925, to Willie Kate and Curtis Douglas McDaniel, and was the youngest of seven children. A lifetime resident of Dallas and member of Kessler Park United Methodist Church, she graduated from Sunset High School in 1943. Dorothy was employed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 19 years where she met her husband, William H. Phipps. They were married in 1962 and made their home in Arlington, where they raised two sons, James and Harrison Phipps.
Dorothy and Bill were avid Texas Rangers fans and enjoyed their baseball games for many years.
She was preceded in death by her dear husband, William H. Phipps; her parents, Willie Kate and Curtis McDaniel; brothers, Allen McDaniel, Leo McDaniel, Herbert McDaniel and Buck McDaniel; and sisters, Emily Cox and Kathleen Smith Riggs.
Survivors: Her stepsons, James Phipps and wife, Linda, and Harrison Phipps and wife, Liz; and grandchildren, Chandra, Jake and Cody Phipps. A loving aunt, she left behind 17 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
