Dorothy Rose Prendergast

March 31, 1937 — February 4, 2024

Dorothy Rose Prendergast, affectionately known as Dottie, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on February 4, 2024, in Grand Prairie, TX. She was born on March 31, 1937, in Reading, PA to the late Paul Essig and Rose Warner Essig.

Dottie had a zest for life that was contagious. With her warm smile and gentle spirit, she touched the lives of everyone she encountered. She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of 66 years, Robert “Bob” Prendergast. Together, they raised six children and created a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Dottie loved hosting her family at holidays, serving her specialties for each. The family gatherings grew larger and larger as grandchildren and great-grandchildren arrived but there was always room for everyone at her house.

Traveling was a favorite pastime for Dottie and Bob, especially cruising which became their beloved way to see the world. They embarked on many journeys together, and in later years together with their children. Those timeless moments spent at sea will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

Dottie had also many other interests. She was a skilled seamstress, finding joy in creating beautiful items for her children, grandchildren and others. Her creativity and attention to detail were evident in every stitch she made. She enjoyed golf and played countless rounds together with Bob.

Left to honor Dottie’s memory are her loving husband, Bob Prendergast; her six children: Debi Ringqvist, Mike Prendergast, Sue Benson, Margie Arnold, Robbie Prendergast, Brian Prendergast and their spouses; her 15 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by her kindness.

To celebrate Dottie’s life, a memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2100 N. Davis Drive, Arlington. Family and friends are invited to join in remembrance and support during this difficult time.

Dottie’s warm presence, infectious laughter, and unwavering love will forever remain in our hearts. May she rest in eternal peace.
