Dorothy Jean Wine, age 65, of Keller, Texas entered eternal life on August 1, 2020. She was born in Jasper, Alabama on July 27, 1955 to the late Tee and Minnie Maddox. She graduated from Walker High School in Jasper, Alabama in 1973. She spent her summers working in Michigan, where she met her husband Don. They married in 1974. Together, they lived in Michigan for 20 years, having 2 sons before moving to Texas. They remained for 2 years before returning to Michigan for 9 years. They also shared a short stint in Ohio before returning to Texas, where she would live for her remaining days.
Dorothy, or D.J. or Dot as she was affectionately known, dedicated her life to the teaching of others. She worked in early education for over 20 years, focusing on teaching and mentoring young children in underserved communities. She furthered her education with a bachelor's degree from Cleary University in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Above all, D.J. was known for her incredible character and her generosity. She enjoyed helping others and contributing to some of her favorite causes, and she lifted everyone she met by her smile and incredible giving spirit.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Tee and Minnie Maddox; and her siblings Flora, Tee, Jr., Inez, Tim, and Wilma Maddox.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Don of Keller, TX; her sons, Donald II of Washington, DC and Steven of Pflugerville, TX; her sisters Geraldine Crosby of Ann Arbor, MI (Walter Crosby Jr., deceased) and Rose Wyine of Jasper, AL; nieces, nephews, and a whole host of relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Dorothy's favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, to pay tribute to her life.
