Doris "Nikki" Mckinney-Forsyth

Doris L. "Nikki" McKinney-Forsyth, 93, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 in Arlington. Funeral Service: Sunday, September 22, 3:30 p.m., at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, 76013, reception after. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph McKinney, in 1961, and her husband, Theron Forsyth, in 2010; her father, Fred, her mother, Pearl, and her grandson, Brent. Survivors: Children, Larry Glazener, wife Lynn Glazener; Randy McKinney, wife, Donna McKinney; sisters Barbara Little and Linda Lines, brother Fred Nickols; grandchildren Shera Kasmiroski, Nickolas Glazener, Tina Hatchett, Robert McKinney, James McKinney, Adam Jurdi and Sara Jurdi. She leaves behind 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild with another on the way. Doris was born October 20, 1925 in Moran, Texas to Fred Dee Nickols and Anna Pearl Stevens Nickols. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1942. She had been an acrobat for the football team (cheerleader) and could cartwheel all the way down main street during parades. She was a very good dancer and loved the jitter bug. Her work history over the years was varied. During WWII, she worked at the first radar facility in the US in New Jersey. After the war, she was a stay at home mom with her 2 sons until the death of her husband, Ralph, when she had to step up and become the breadwinner for the family. She worked a variety of jobs including working for John Ball, who designed the streets and sewer systems for the City of Arlington. She worked for the Navy and held a top-secret security clearance. She then began working for the FAA as a secretary in the department with the air traffic controllers. She retired from the FAA. After retirement, she kept very busy in the community as a Meals on Wheels driver. She taught a defensive driving class to senior citizens. She was one of the founding members of the Hope Tutoring after school program at her church of many years, Aldersgate UMC in Arlington. Since the closing of Aldersgate she has been a member and regularly attended services at Church of the Good Shepherd UMC in Arlington. Nikki was never one to sit still. She exercised for many years with the Jane Fonda low impact workouts 3-5 times a week. She loved bowling and was in a league for many years. She loved the Rangers baseball team. She loved Arlington and lived in her same home for well over 50 years. She was very involved in local and national politics and was a card carrying "yellow dog" Democrat. She also embraced new technology and was on Face Book and had her own tablet and smart phone. She kept current with world events through newspapers and watching TV. One of her favorite social times was going to the beauty shop every week and she loved and was loyal to her beauticians/cosmetologists, Debi, Debbie and Sara, her granddaughter. Nikki was a godly woman who did a daily devotional reading from "The Upper Room" and praying on her front porch. She loved her family and looked forward to gatherings as the highlight of her year.
