Doris Janette Sharpe

November 6, 1932 — August 22, 2014

ARLINGTON -- Doris Chambers Sharpe, 81, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at home with family members after a lengthy illness. Service: Her life will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Epworth United Methodist Church, 1400 S. Cooper St., Arlington. Interment: 1:30 p.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Lane C. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Doris was born Nov. 6, 1932, in Colquitt, Ga., to Fred and Mary Kate Broxson Chambers. She married Richard Sharpe on May 20, 1956, and began life as the wife of an Air Force officer. Since her husband was frequently on assignment, Doris was responsible for all aspects of family life, raising three children, managing family finances and coordinating frequent family moves. While Richard was on a 12-month assignment during the Vietnam War era, Doris supervised the financing and construction of a home that she also completely furnished. Doris had been active in church activities at Epworth United Methodist Church since 1979, serving on several committees and as chair of the Epworth Worship Committee for many years. She was a longtime member of Epworth UMW serving in various leadership positions. She was selected Church Woman of the Year from Epworth in 1988. Doris enjoyed fishing in Minnesota, gardening in Texas and family trips to the Alabama and Florida beaches and to her hometown of Colquitt, Ga. We remember her as a warm, loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, always ready to sacrifice for her family and capable of doing whatever was necessary for that family. She will be sorely missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Charlotte; and brother, Sammy. Survivors: Doris is survived by her husband of 58 years, Richard; son, Richard Sharpe Jr. (Carla); daughters, Sherry Andrus (Scott) and Susan Clark (Mike); grandsons, Kevin Sharpe (Nicole), Derek Sharpe and Jared Clark; sister, Barbara Clearman (Luther); brother, Carlton Chambers (Peggy); brother-in-law, Bill Cox; and several nieces and nephews.
