Doris Mitchell Budd, age 96, a longtime resident of Arlington, TX, died Wednesday, December 27, 2017.
Services will be held Thursday, January 4, 2018, at 12:00 noon at Wade Funeral Home with burial to follow at DFW National Cemetery.
Doris was born June 29, 1921 in Hurtsboro, AL. Immediately after graduating from Auburn High School she moved to Montgomery, AL to attend business school. She subsequently went to work at Maxwell Air Force Base as a secretary and was working there when World War II was declared. She continued to work on base throughout the war. It was there that she met her future husband, Marr Abner Budd, a Master Sergeant in the Air Force. They married January 10, 1947 in Birmingham, AL.
Over the next few years they moved a number of times, living in Alaska, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Florida, Georgia, and Alabama, before finally settling in Arlington, Texas in 1970. Doris and Marr had four children, three daughters and a son. When the children started arriving, Doris retired from her job and became a full-time mother and homemaker. Many years later she returned to secretarial work and ultimately retired from her civil service job with the Department of Education.
Doris was an avid reader and she instilled that love in her children. Many days were spent visiting the local library. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Part of her daily routine was to read the newspaper and then complete the crossword puzzle. Another lifelong interest was fitness and exercise. She exercised along with Jack LaLanne records and later enjoyed taking classes at the Arlington Community Center. In her later years she learned to use a computer. She kept up with the local and world news and communicated with family via email.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Marr Budd, and sisters Virginia Easterly and Joyce Chambers and brother Charles Mitchell.
She is survived by her sister, Mamie Laura Trussell and her children, Sherry Smith and husband J.D., Valerie Ganann and husband Bob, Mike Budd, and Carla Tanner and husband Mike. She is also survived by grandchildren Jeff Smith, Amy Smith, Jennifer Sheiner, Kim Cason, Katie Waggoner, Robert Ganann, Carter McEachern and Casey Tanner, and great grandchildren Haley Cason, Caleb Cason, Ryan Waggoner, Rachel Waggoner, Addison Sheiner and Kaylee Sheiner.
