Donnie Ray King

September 1, 1938 — March 28, 2023

Donnie Ray King of Arlington, Texas passed away on March 28, 2023, at the age of 84. Donnie was born in Sterling, Oklahoma on September 1, 1938, to Fletcher and Velda King; he was the first of three children. Donnie grew up in Oklahoma, where at the age of 19 he met his first and only love, Sharon Kay Lucas.

Donnie loved to tell the story about the first time he laid eyes on Sharon; he saw Sharon walking down the street and turned to his buddy and said, I’m going to marry that girl; and he did exactly that!

Donnie and Sharon married on November 29, 1957, and eventually headed south to set up roots and raise their family in Texas.

Donnie proved his level of commitment and loyalty by dedicating over 40 years of his life working for Texas Industries. He held numerous positions ranging from maintenance supervisor, welder, forklift operator and mechanic. He truly was the type of employee companies valued.

Much like his wife Sharon, Donnie cherished his family. There was no limit to what he would do or how far he would go for a family member in need. Side by side with Sharon, he raised his own children, Donna and Billy, and continued by raising his grandchildren and ultimately played a significant role in the raising of his great-grandchildren.

Donnie also had other loves; his passions included hunting, fishing and playing golf. He enjoyed spending hunting season at the deer lease, where he and his buddies went, not only to hunt, but to create lifelong memories. Donnie was a lifetime member of the Fort Worth Anglers Club, where he spent many years as a board member and was a member of the black bass tournament committee.

Donnie is survived by his sisters-in-law, Sue Hogue, Carolyn Brown and husband Bill, and Mickie King; brother-in-law, Steve Wiles; his daughter, Donna Syrios and husband Mike; his son, William “Billy” King and wife Jeni; grandchildren, Johnny Todd and wife Carmen, James Todd, Virginia King and partner Brooke Garvin, Rachael Black and husband Nick, Rebecca Syrios, Gabriel Syrios and wife Jessica, Todd Graves and wife Carly; 30 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews, and cousins along with many friends and a loving church family.

Donnie is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon King; son, Billy Don King; parents Fletcher and Velda King; his brother Billy King; his sister, Barbara Bell; his granddaughter, Sheryl Todd; his grandson, Colten King; his father-in-law, Ralph Lucas and his mother-in-law, Georgia Lucas; his brothers-in-law, Raymond Lucas and Ronnie Hogue; sister-in-law, Beverly Wiles and granddaughter-in-law, Tana Todd.
