A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Donnie (Don) Eugene Pittman passed away on January 10, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 15, 1934, in Cache, OK, he married the love of his life, Anna (Anne) Putney, on September 18, 1954. He proudly served in the U.S. Army in Germany. It was here he and Anne found their love of travel. After his military service he worked for Continental Airlines, Six Flags Corporation and later started several successful travel agencies in Texas and Oklahoma. Their love for the industry allowed them to travel extensively throughout the world including Australia, Europe and the Far East. They organized group charters for over 20 Super Bowls. He was an active member of the Rotary Club for more than 30 years, raising money for the flag program and serving for one term as President. Having survived cancer for over 14 years he actively participated in a cancer support group at Baylor Medical. Most importantly, he was a dedicated member of the First Methodist Church of Arlington.
Don was an amazing man, loved by all who knew him. He was kind, friendly and loved telling stories to anyone who would listen. He was even more interested in other people's stories and ideas. Above all he cherished and loved his family. He was a wonderful father and “Papa” and carried a special interest and bond with each of his children and grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Villa and Fred Pittman, sister, Mary Casner, and brother, Ronnie Pittman. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Anne; son, Thad E. Pittman and wife Michelle of Fort Worth, TX; daughter Michelle Bradshaw and husband Doug of Arlington, TX. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Jason Bradshaw, Payne Pittman, and Paxton Pittman, as well as his brother-in-law, John Putney and wife Cassie; nephews Brock and Kevin Ward.
Graveside burial service will be held at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, on Tuesday, January 26th at 1pm by Wade Funeral Home. Due to Covid restrictions, attendance is limited.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a future date and time.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (Pittman Fund), the Arlington Rotary Club or First United Methodist Church of Arlington.
