DONNA P YORK
06/21/1934 – 09/25/2023
Donna was born June 21, 1934 in Ottawa, Illinois. She passed away peacefully September 25, 2023 at the age of 89 in Mansfield, Texas. Donna lived a full, active and very happy life. She lived in several states growing up due to her father’s career. Her family moved to Lubbock, Texas while she was a teenager and remained there through high school. After high school Donna moved to Dallas to attend SMU. After one year she decided to move back to Lubbock and transfer to Texas Tech. While at Tech she met and married Bill York on June 1, 1955. Bill served in the US Army for two years and Donna moved to DeRidder, Louisiana while Bill was stationed at Fort Polk. While in DeRidder their first son Jack was born. After Bill’s service ended they moved back to Lubbock. Donna dropped out of Texas Tech and worked full time so Bill could complete his education. After Bill graduated they moved to Canyon, Texas where Bill started his career. While in Canyon their second son Jeff was born. Bill’s career led them to live in various cities in Texas: Lubbock, Canyon, Edinburg, Alice (twice), Mesquite and San Antonio. They remained in San Antonio for 30 years and were very happy there.

After Bill retired they moved to Arlington, Texas to be closer to their grandkids. Donna was a wonderful, caring mother and stayed at home to raise her two sons. Once the boys reached their late teens Donna decided to return to the work force. While living in San Antonio and in her early 50s, Donna surprised her family and decided to begin a career as a Travel Agent specializing in cruises. She was so successful and built such a large, loyal client base that she began her own agency. She continued her career into her late 70s. Her career led her to travel extensively around the world including so many cruises that she lost count. Donna truly enjoyed her career as a travel agent, her service to her church and her extensive travel but what really made her happy was spending time with her granddaughter Lindsey and grandson Jeremy. She loved summers in particular when they would come for extended visits. She so enjoyed being able to dote on them and take them to fun activities all over San Antonio.

Donna is preceded in death by her husband Bill York, mother Bertha Mae Davis and father Arland (Kelly) Kelso. She is survived by 2 sons: Jack and Diane York and Jeff York; 2 Grandchildren: Lindsey & Lance Hale and Jeremy & Lili York and 3 Great Grandchildren: Joshua Hale, Madison Hale and Autumn York.

A family memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, October 2, 2023, in the Chapel at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas.
