RLINGTON -- Donald "Don" Gene Hammonds, 72, passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, in Arlington. Memorial service: 10 a.m Tuesday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m Monday at the funeral home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Don's name may be made to Christian Homes of Abilene, www.christianhomes.com, or The Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.com Don was born July 21, 1943, in Lubbock to Cecil Ivan Hammonds and Flossie Evelyn Bogard Hammonds. Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 20 years of service. After retirement he pursued his second career with Texas Workforce Commission before retiring once again. Don was a member of New York Avenue Church of Christ, where he was very active. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and his sister. Survivors: Wife of 51 years, Yvonne Hammonds; sons, Donald Gene Hammonds II and wife, Erin, and Danny Hammonds and wife, Anna; daughters, Kathryn Barns and husband, Brian, and Jenny Crum and husband, Kevin; 10 grandchildren; and many more family members and friends.
