Don Charles Newcomb, 85, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023 in Granbury, Texas.
Don was born on February 6, 1938 in Evansville, Indiana to Ira James Newcomb and Madeline Emma Dugan Newcomb. His family moved to Clearwater, Florida and lived there during most of his school years. He was very active in band and a regular at the beach. His family moved again his last year of high school to Arlington where he attended AHS, Arlington State College, met and married his wife and established his career. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the U.S.S. Independence. He knew the value of hard work and enjoyed great success in residential real estate.
Don was witty and had a dry sense of humor. He loved all sports but was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed luxury cars and always wanted to look his best. He enjoyed taking his boat out on Lake Texoma. Don enjoyed all genres of music but especially Elvis, Big Band, Country and Christmas music on his LPs. Christmas was his and Betty’s favorite holiday and he loved to buy her presents. He had a very close relationship with his family. They were very important to him.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Taylor Newcomb.
Survivors: Sister, Suzanne Tanner and husband, Tom; sister-in-law, Shirley Kusan and husband James; niece, Kelsey Hicks and husband, Derric; and nephews, Derek Tanner and wife, Amber and Ken Hanshaw and wife, Jenny.
Graveside Service: 10:15 a.m. Monday, July 24, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Monday, July 24, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA.org.
