David William Agee

November 9, 1945 — August 7, 2024

David William Agee, 78, passed away on August 7, 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born November 9, 1945, in Big Spring, Texas, to Sherwin William Agee and Mildred Johnson Jones. He was the eldest son of 5 children. He graduated class of ’64 from Big Spring High School before attending The University of North Texas, where he earned degrees in Industrial Arts and a master’s degree in education.

David’s 37-year career in education included various positions in the Fort Worth Independent School District: teacher, assistant principal, principal, and several administrative positions. David was a wonderful educator who never forgot a student and left a lasting positive effect on many of their lives.

He was a gifted storyteller and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others, captivating any audience. David had a mind for detail and a passion for gathering and sharing historical knowledge. He loved telling stories about growing up with his siblings in Big Spring, and the adventures he shared with them and their cousins at their Nanny and Papa’s house. As a child, he loved fishing with his father and Papa, and playing on the baseball team.

David’s pride and joy were his three daughters and their families. They made countless memories playing games and sharing stories by their backyard pool. He liked to take them waterskiing at the lake and to the beach. He taught all his kids and grandkids how to shoot, and loved to travel throughout Texas with them. One of his goals in life was to travel every highway in Texas. A road trip with him was always narrated with historical significance.

An avid outdoorsman, David loved the Big Bend area, and had the most fun at Terlingua, judging the Chili Cookoff, which he regularly attended for over 40 years. He also enjoyed astronomy and stargazing; which was easily done in West Texas. It was not uncommon to get a call from him telling you to go out and look at the moon so you were both looking at it together even if there were hundreds of miles between you.

While in attendance at UNT, David met Linda Hensel. When their paths crossed 50 years later, they quickly reunited and married on April 8, 2016. Since then, they have been inseparable, spending the last decade of his life traveling the world and enjoying activities with their family and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Sherwin W. Agee and Mildred J. Jones; his brother, Michael Paul Agee; and his grandparents, Samuel Paul Jones and Lillie Beatrice McKeown.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Hensel Agee; his daughters, Sara Agee Le, Lisa Baracker, and Lindsey Agee; his sisters, Sharon Morrow and Karen Dopita; his brother Patrick Agee; and seven grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the family’s residence on Monday, August 12, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. David will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
