David Paul Covington

October 10, 1951 — August 15, 2022

Paul Covington of Arlington, TX passed away on August 15, 2022, at the age of 70 following cardiac issues plus a recent injury. Paul was born in Dallas on October 10, 1951, to Hubert Thelston Covington and Dorothy Petty Covington. He grew up in Grand Prairie, TX and graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1970.

Paul had an early interest in art as a vocation and went on to study art at the University of Texas at Arlington, receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1978.

After college Paul went to work for the Grand Prairie School system, where he put his handyman talents to work in the maintenance department. In 1993 Paul went to work for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas as a painter, retiring in 2018 after 25 years of service.

In 1985, Paul met Sharon who was pursuing her Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of North Texas. Two years later after Sharon graduated and relocated to Arlington, TX, Paul and Sharon began dating and fell in love. Paul and Sharon were married on August 1, 1992, and recently celebrated their 30th anniversary together.

Paul’s marriage to Sharon helped rekindle his passion for art, and in his free time he created many unique and thought-provoking works over the years. He held numerous local exhibitions of his art, including at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, the McKinney Avenue Contemporary, the Deep Ellum Arts Festival, and the Fort Worth Arts Festival. He also held a joint exhibition with his wife, Sharon, at Tarrant County College Southeast in 2008.

Paul was a music afficionado and an avid collector of vinyl records. His extensive eclectic collection of albums occupies an entire wall in his home, and his knowledge of music trivia was even more extensive. Paul always had a smile on his face and a positive outlook on life, to go along with a keen sense of humor, a kind heart, and a unique perspective on life.

Paul is survived by his wife, Sharon, brothers Marc (Natalie) and Robert, and sister Celia Havel (Andy), stepdaughter Audrey Blagg (Terry), and granddaughters Cassidy Blagg and Mikayla Blagg.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington, TX on Saturday August 27, 2022, from 2-4 PM, for family and friends to gather and celebrate Paul’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.
