David Greubel

David John Greubel, 65, of Fort Worth, TX passed away on May 15, 2019 from complications due to bladder cancer. David was born in Fort Collins, CO on March 9, 1954 to F.J. “Jack” and Norma Greubel. He spent the first years of his life on an idyllic ranch in Walden, CO before moving to Denver. At age 10, he traded in his “husky” jeans for hay baling muscles when the family bought a farm in Lacona, IA. He always joked that he didn't need to watch Green Acres because he lived it! He graduated from Southeast Warren High in 1972 and Drake University in 1976. He was married a year later to Sue Cox of Milo, IA and in 1978, he achieved his lifetime goal of becoming a dad…a feat he would accomplish 3 more times. David worked as a VP of Sales for Texas Feathers in Arlington, TX for the majority of his career. He was loved and respected by coworkers and customers alike. He was a lover of baseball, Hawkeye sports, music (although his eclectic tastes often got him banned from DJ privileges), the Old West, woodworking, and trout fishing. David was soft-spoken, respectful, and witty with a dry sense of humor. He loved his boys and taught them all to become good men. The beginning of April marked the 15th annual Branson fishing trip, his favorite week every year. His final day on the water was a tough bite for him as his sons all out fished him, a feat that had never happened prior and one that his boys didn't let him forget. However, his crowning achievement of fatherhood was raising his daughter, the apple of his eye. He is preceded in death by his parents and older sister, Karen. He is survived by his sister Linda (Greg) Jacobs and family of Marshalltown, IA. Linda was blessed to be with him for his final week. He is also survived by his children Nick (Koren) Greubel of Saint Peters, MO, Adam (Rowena) Greubel of Irving, TX, Brenton “BJ” (Marcie) Greubel and Elisa Greubel, both of Fort Worth. Finally, he is survived by his grandson, Jack, and a new grandbaby to arrive this Christmas. Both will no doubt be inundated with Papa stories in the years to come. Burial in Lacona and a celebration of life will occur this summer. If you can make it, please come and share memories and make sure to ask his boys about the time they out fished him!
