David Gene Holloway

David Gene Holloway, cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on March 19, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on September 17, 1948, in Bristol, Virginia, David’s life was a testament to faith, service, love, and dedication to his family and community.

From his earliest years, David’s faith was a guiding light. He found solace and strength in his relationship with Jesus Christ, solidifying his belief with a public profession of faith at the First Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas. His unwavering commitment to his faith shaped his character and influenced all aspects of his life.

David’s youth was marked by camaraderie and athletic achievement. Excelling in track and field at Sam Houston High School, he formed lifelong friendships with teammates and earned recognition for his prowess in various events. His resilience and sportsmanship laid the groundwork for a life characterized by determination and perseverance.

Amidst the uncertainties of the Vietnam War era, David bravely answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army. After undergoing basic training at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, he was stationed in Okinawa and later at Ft. Stewart, Georgia. It was during this time that he found love and companionship with Cherry Densmore, whom he married on November 17, 1971. Together, they weathered the challenges of military life, welcoming two children, Doug and Tannie, into their loving home.

David’s military service took him around the globe, including to Germany and other European countries, where he embraced new cultures and experiences alongside his family. Throughout his time in the army, David remained dedicated to his passion for running, inspiring his fellow soldiers with his endurance and spirit.

Upon retiring from the army, David found fulfillment in civilian life, working diligently for the U.S. Postal Service as both a mail carrier and warehouse worker for over two decades. His commitment to service and excellence endeared him to colleagues and customers alike, reflecting his unwavering integrity and work ethic.

Beyond his professional endeavors, David was known for his devout faith, love of music, and unwavering devotion to his family. His joy in whistling church hymns and sharing the message of Christ’s love left an indelible impact on all who knew him.

David leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will be treasured by his beloved wife Cherry, his children Doug and wife Becky, Tannie and husband Justin, his grandchildren Tanner Jacob Jobe and Bonnie Lee Holloway, as well as numerous relatives and friends. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will endure in the hearts of all who were touched by his kindness and grace.

Visitation will be held on March 28, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. at Wade Funeral Home and Crematory in Arlington, TX. The funeral service will take place on March 29, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Wade Funeral Home and Crematory, followed by a graveside ceremony at 1:00 p.m. at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, TX.
