David Byron Mccarver

November 6, 1950 — July 29, 2019

David Byron McCarver, 68, died on July 29, 2019 after suffering a second stroke four months after suffering his first stroke. He was surrounded by friends and family as they sang hymns and read scripture while he peacefully passed into his loving Savior's arms at MCA Hospital in Arlington, TX. Visitation will be held in the Children's Building at First Baptist Church of Arlington on Wednesday July 31st from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at the FBC Arlington Sanctuary on Thursday August 1, 2019 at 10 am with Dr. Charles Wade officiating. Memorial Donations can be made to the FBC Arlington Children's Ministry. David was born on November 6, 1950 in Searcy, AR to Oran Hughes McCarver and Martha Elizabeth Taylor McCarver. He was raised in Pine Bluff, AR where his father worked as a clerk and bookkeeper and his mother worked as a church pianist and organist. He graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1969 and went on to attend the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he became a lifelong Arkansas Razorback Fan while pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He met Sarah Ann Dawson at the University of Arkansas Baptist Student Union and wed her on August 17, 1974. Upon graduation in December of 1975, David and Sarah moved to Lake Charles, LA where David worked for the Louisiana Department of Transportation. They then moved to Arlington, TX where David worked for several consulting firms prior to working for the city of Mansfield for many years. David and Sarah welcomed David Christopher McCarver on August 29, 1980, Lance Dawson McCarver on July 11, 1983, and Ann Elizabeth McCarver on February 25, 1985. David and Sarah joined First Baptist Church of Arlington in 1977 and quickly became part of a very special family of faith. Many lifelong friends and relationships were created as David and Sarah served in multiple ministries of the church, most notably in the children's department teaching Sunday School, Royal Ambassadors and Mission Friends. David taught 6th grade Sunday School for 25 years while assisting young people find their faith and develop a love for Christ. After working for the city of Mansfield, TX from 1986 to 1999, David switched back to the private side of engineering and finished his career working for various consulting engineering firms. David retired in December of 2016 and spent his free time serving at his church, visiting his children and grandchildren, and continuing to root for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Besides his family, David had a lifelong love for John Wayne movies, music by the Eagles, and working on cars. David is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sarah, and his children and grandchildren, Chris and his wife Melodi and their children Emilia, Levi, and Kade; Lance and his wife Michelle and their children Dawson, and Maryela; and Annie Bartholomew and her husband Matt and their children Katelyn, Joseph, and baby #3 in September, 2019; as well as his sister Beth Joslin, of White Hall, AR, and his nephew, Nicholas Koberlein, of Bryant, AR.
