Daniel Mark Regalado

November 6, 1969 — June 13, 2014

ARLINGTON -- To the heartbreak of all who knew him, Daniel Regalado, 44, passed away Friday, June 13, following a brain aneurysm. Celebration of Life: Please join us in a funky, fun celebration of Daniel Regalado's life Friday, June 20 at 6 p.m. at the Levitt Pavilion in Arlington. Please wear casual, comfortable, crazy clothes and wacky hats. Bring your funny stories and precious memories of this amazing man. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, First Presbyterian Church Arlington has established a fund in his name for his children's educations. Years ago Daniel insisted that when he died, his obituary would say something like, “He passed away after a cowardly battle with….” just so people would laugh. But as it turns out, that's not the truth. His battle, like his life, was courageous and kind. He lived every day in full-saturated color and joy and with as much sarcasm and humor as possible. He taught photography at Martin High School in Arlington for 17 years and was chosen Teacher of the Year in 2013. What he really liked to teach, though, was how to live a full life. He taught people how to give of their time and talents to help others and to come together for something bigger than themselves. He taught them to say “I love you” to the people in their lives every single day. He taught them that if they see a couple taking individual photos of each other that they should offer to take one of them together. He'd say, “Things are to be used and not loved. People are to be loved and not used.” He taught people to see beauty everywhere, and that Lego building truly is an art form, and to not take pictures of squirrels or ceiling fans, for crying out loud. Daniel loved his family and friends well and fully, in word and in deed, and they count themselves lucky to have known him. He lived an amazing, beautiful life. His parents are Dr. Maria Regalado of Dallas and Domingo and Emma Regalado of McKinney. Daniel grew up in the Lakewood area of Dallas and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1988 and from the University of Texas at Austin in 1993. Survivors: His passing leaves a huge hole in the lives of his wife Tricia and children Elena and Mark, as well as his siblings Benjamin, Lydia and Naomi and scores of family, friends and students.
