Dallas Dutson, age 75, of Crowley, Texas passed away on February 6, 2022. He was born on April 16, 1946 in Murray, Utah to Lura(Williams) and George Merlin Dutson. He was the youngest of eight children (Gloria, Nesha, Ray, Clyne, Nygra, Lurali, Niles) and was much loved.
Dallas grew up in Chandler, Arizona. He enlisted in the US Army, serving from 1963-1966, and earned the rank of Army Specialist (E-4). While in the service, Dallas was stationed in Germany working on missiles. During his career, he proudly won a Marksmanship award.
After the service, Dallas met his first wife, Judy Juriga. They lived in upstate New York and were blessed with two daughters, Sheree and Melanie. While in New York, Dallas managed an Endicott Shoes store. While there, Dallas and Judy won a sales contest which awarded them a trip of a lifetime to Spain. In his spare time, he loved helping Judy’s parents with both their family farm and their seasonal Christmas tree farm.
After their divorce, Dallas moved to California where he met Ann Meacham. They married and made their home in Sonoma, California where they raised their children, Katherine, Dianne, and Devin.
Dallas was very active in the community, serving as President of Old Adobe School, a member of the Antique Car Club, President of the Model A Car Club, Commander of the VFW (Post 1943 Bear Flag Post), Commander of the American Legion (Post 489 Jack London Post), a member of SIR (Seniors in Retirement), and the Chamber of Commerce. Dallas and his family attended Trinity Episcopal Church where he served as Junior Warden, Senior Warden, Head Usher, Vestry Search Committee.
Dallas worked in sales at Excel Mineral, traveling the Northwest, before purchasing The Flag Store (later known as Flag Emporium) on Broadway in Sonoma. He was frequently in parades driving his 1929 Model A, affectionately known as “The Burgundy Buddy.”
Dallas lived for a time in South Texas where he enjoyed birdwatching on his 50 acre ranch, being a member of the Sinton Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and working for Texas A&M University-Kingsville inspecting citrus.
Recently Dallas moved in with his daughter Melanie and her husband, Hancl, in Crowley, Texas.
Dallas loved to meet people and visit with friends and family. Some of his interests included walking, gardening, woodworking, birdwatching, cars, playing guitar, telling jokes, traveling, and baking pies. He will be fondly remembered for his humor, outgoing personality, and good-natured disposition.
Dallas is survived by his children: Sheree (Eric) Perkins, Melanie (Hancl) Carr, Katherine (Jacob) Grande, Dianne (Tim) Harrison. He is preceded in death by his son, Devin Dutson. “Pop-Pop” also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Jared, Zachary, Landon, Samantha, Kelsey, Avery, Michaela, Camden, Gabriel Dallas, and his great-grandson: Braxton.
