Christopher James Smith passed away on April 16, 2025, in Bedford, Texas, at the age of 59. Born on July 12, 1965, in Anchorage, Alaska, Chris lived a full and joyful life marked by his devotion to family, love for his country, and a personality that brought laughter and warmth to everyone around him.
Chris had a gift for making people smile. Whether it was cracking a joke, singing "Happy Birthday" over the phone to family and friends, or delivering his famous line—"cooked with heat"—when asked how he liked his steak, Chris made moments memorable. His humor, kindness, and zest for life were evident in everything he did.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force, a decision born from his desire to travel the world and serve his country. Chris was especially proud of his role as Crew Chief on the B-52, and he spoke of that experience with great pride. He often took his grandchildren—and even his nieces and nephews—to air shows, sharing stories and instilling in them a deep appreciation for aviation and service.
One of his most cherished memories was visiting the Pyramids, a reflection of his love for travel and history.
Chris was a proud graduate of Arlington High School, where he swam competitively on the swim team. He remained actively involved in family life, cheering from the sidelines at sporting events, hosting and attending holiday gatherings, and never missing a birthday. He especially loved Christmas, time with his grandchildren, and calling loved ones just to check in—or shout "Touchdown!" whenever the Dallas Cowboys scored, often followed by a phone call to share the excitement.
He enjoyed classic rock and often spoke with pride about going to high school with members of the band Pantera. A lifelong learner, Chris could frequently be found on his iPad researching a wide range of topics. He had a green thumb and took pride in his garden, growing tomatoes, jalapeños, and zucchini. He also loved animals, blue was his favorite color, and he found joy in the little things.
Chris had a big heart, always putting others before himself. He was the definition of a true caregiver, especially in his dedication to his late wife, Simone. He lived out the meaning of love, compassion, and service in his daily actions.
Chris worked for several alarm companies over the years and was a go-to expert when it came to home security systems. He was smart, resourceful, and could fix just about anything.
Chris was clear about his wishes—he didn’t want a suit when he passed. He wanted to be remembered in his favorite polo and shorts, just as he lived: comfortably, casually, and completely himself. He often told his family, "People can dress casual at my funeral."
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Simone Smith; his father, David Smith; and his mother, Jean Smith.
Chris is survived by his son: Michael Smith and wife Gina; grandchildren, Brayden Kimsey, Kaylee Kimsey, and two granddaughters; brother, Michael Smith and wife Mel; sisters, Sherri Wade and husband Chris, and Barbara Johnston and husband Eddie; sister-in-laws and their spouses: Tana & RC Wetzel, Linda & Scott Cantrell, and Leslie Batchelor; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
