Christie Anne Ford Guion joined the Lord on February 1, 2023. A loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, spiritual leader and an angel to all that knew her and loved her. Her spiritual dedication and devotion guided her life every single day. Christie lived to serve the Lord, her family, friends, and brought inspiration to anyone in need of love and support.
Born on September 13, 1951 in El Paso, Texas to Helen Lorene and Wayne Leslie Ford, Christie spent her childhood throughout Texas living in El Paso, Austin and Dallas with her parents and two sisters, Susan and Nancy. She lived her adult life in Arlington, Texas where she and Don raised their two sons, Gary and David.
She is survived by her husband Don Guion, her son, Gary Guion and wife Amy Jetel of Houston, Texas; her son, David Guion and wife Marilyn Durden of Houston, Texas; Sister, Nancy Bass and companion, Terry Meenehan; Nephews Andrew Bass and wife Megan; Matthew Bass and wife Kirby; and her grandchildren, Ford Guion, Henry Guion and Graham Guion. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Helen Ford and her sister, Susan Carroll.
Christie was a distinguished leader in high school with a long list of awards and accomplishments including: Kimball Knight Round Table, Latin Student of the Year, Troubadears, National Honor Society, County Chairman for the March of Dimes Campaign and elected 1 of the top 12 students her senior year out of 800 students. In the fall of 1968, her senior year in high school, she accepted a date from the love of her life, Don, and the rest was history! Following high school, she attended The University of North Texas and later joined Don at Texas Tech University. They returned to Dallas where she began her role as a loving and supportive wife and worked at Henry S. Miller as Herb Weitzman’s assistant while Don attended dental school. Christie married Don in 1972 at the age of 20 and they began their life in Arlington together in 1975 where he opened his dental practice.
In addition to being a devoted wife, steadfast follower of Christ and selfless mother, her most admirable trait was her ability to show compassion to others by serving them tirelessly. Her commitment to others was most notably evident by her role in leading the Volunteer Program at The Women’s Center for Rape Crisis and Victim Services Program, her role as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) for 40+ years, and her dedication to Mission Arlington as not only a Board Member but also a leader of the Christmas Store and School Supplies programs. She also served on The Center for Transforming Lives Governing Board, became a CASA, court appointed special advocate, served on the Grand Jury of Tarrant County multiple years, counseled at the Arlington Pregnancy Center (now MWC), organized Women’s Center of Tarrant County Victory Over Violence various events, a leader for Mom’s in Touch, a Sunday school leader at Pantego Bible Church (Now Central Bible Church), chaired the initial Pregnancy Lifeline Gala, and was a recipient of Legacy of Women Award from Safe Haven. To summarize, for 50 years of her life she woke up every day to humbly serve someone else as her calling and purpose from the Lord.
Christie and Don were blessed with not only close family, but with many friendships that lasted throughout their life. These family and friends raised their children, carried one another’s burdens through prayer and enjoyed traveling frequently. They walked through many seasons of life together, trusting in the Lord every step of the way.
Christie found peace on and in the water anywhere she could find it around the world. She was an avid scuba diver and in those times she found contentment, happiness and pure joy. But above all things, her greatest joy and happiness was found in spending time with her 3 grandsons. She was the most extraordinary “Nana” encompassing fun, adventure, kindness, discipleship, and most of all when it came to her grandsons, she always said Yes. Christie, our prayer Warrior, is with her Lord and will be greatly missed.
